Together vs not together
Synchronous learning
is scheduled learning with the whole class in real-time.
My thoughts- I like this form as it is better for socializing, asking questions, getting feedback, and keeping motivated. Humans are such social beings and I feel that we learn more from each other when we can speak/discuss face to face. I also like that questions and feedback can be given instantaneously, rather than waiting for a response online. Lastly, I find that when there is a scheduled time and date, it helps to stay on track and prevents procrastination.
Asynchronous learning
is learning that happens on your own time and is more flexible.
My thoughts- I enjoy this learning as it allows for that flexibility and the ability to work at your own pace. I also like how it allows more time to obtain a job, as commuting to and from school is eliminated and the day-to-day schedule is more open. On the flip side, it is tough at times if there is a question that is needing a quick answer because you then have to wait for a response. I find this learning can add a barrier or unfair advantage to those who are not familiar with the technology being used. In this case, more time is spent on learning the online system and tools, which takes away from learning the intended content.
